Intro to CS Middle
Introduction to
Computer Science
Introduction to Computer Science (Middle School) is the flagship VIDI X Universe course for grades 6–8 — a full year of computer science designed for students who have never written a line of code.
Everything runs in the browser, so there’s nothing to install and it works on any PC, Mac, or Chromebook. Students move through five carefully sequenced units, each building on the last: from understanding how a computer actually works, to thinking like a problem-solver, to writing their first real code and telling stories with data.
Every lesson is standards-aligned and built for the classroom — teachers get ready-made plans, slides, and graded projects, while students learn through interactive challenges, not lectures. By the end, learners have a portfolio of real projects and the confidence to keep going.
At a glance
The Invisible Machine
How do a computer’s hidden components, binary language, and networks work together to process data, communicate, and solve problems behind the scenes?
Preview this unitAlgorithmic Architectures
Break down problems, recognize patterns, and use logic to design efficient algorithms that power smart, decision-making systems.
Creative Syntax
Use variables, data types, and functions to store information and build simple, reusable code that makes programs work and respond to users.
Data Storytelling
How is data collected, stored, and turned into charts and stories — and how can we use it responsibly while protecting our digital footprint?
Digital Citizen’s Defense
How can we stay safe online by protecting our data, spotting scams, and understanding how AI and technology can impact fairness and privacy?
Inside the Machine
Discover what really happens when you press a key, click a link, or send a message — from the electricity in the wires to the data flying across the world.
How CPU, RAM & storage work together as a team
How computers turn everything into 0s and 1s

The Hardware Handshake
Meet the team inside your computer — CPU, RAM, and storage — and learn how they pass data back and forth at lightning speed.
Try it yourselfBinary – The Language of Electricity
Every photo, song, and text message is secretly just 0s and 1s. Learn how computers turn electricity into information.
Start lesson →The Invisible Web
Follow a data packet on its journey across the internet — through routers, IP addresses, and the networks that connect the world.
Start lesson →Troubleshooting & The “Why” of Errors
Stop clicking randomly and start thinking systematically. Learn the logic tree that real IT pros use to fix anything.
Start lesson →The IT Consultant Challenge
GreenLeaf Architecture Firm is in crisis — their printer vanished, a file won’t upload, and the workstation is frozen. You’re the IT consultant. Fix all three tickets and submit your professional audit report.
