How to engage students in computer science classroom?
VIDI X offers two important elements to engage students in the classroom: hands-on microcomputer that looks like a gaming device, and lesson plan designed to inspire students with a quick win.
VIDI X microcomputer features a touch color screen and two sets of buttons on each side of it. Students usually immediately recognize this layout and engage with microcomputer intuitively – like they would use a gaming device. In this manner, our microcomputer is a “bridge”: it allows us to demonstrate how code can change things in the material world around us, in a very tangible and responsive way.
The first coding lesson will make each student use a simple code to program an LED on a microcomputer, and they will do it within the first minute! They will be instructed how to change certain elements in code to make the LED blink in the way they imagine. Students will be able to do it without full understanding of the elements of code, but the point of this exercise is to empower them; to make them think “I can do this! Computer science is fun, and not so hard!”.
